Nature Sketches - 02

More nature sketches from 2019, all 12.5 x 8.5cm. Most of these take less than an hour to sketch. In making these, I've been improving my compositions by choosing my references carefully, by adding or removing elements to keep the composition readable, by choosing where each piece begins and ends, and by laying out smaller studies on a single paper. Likewise, I've been able to experiment with different balances of pencil, pen, and marker and with different papers to find what works best for me. My shading styles change quite often, sometimes emphasizing forms and texture directions, other times being purely about light and shadow, and lately I've started using base-tones to distinguish between elements of each plant (leaves are always several shades darker).
